Personal Reflections

Happy Christmas: Christ is Born! I attended a worship service for the first time today at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. I did not realize that there would be no sermon this Sunday because this church traditionally gives their pastor the day off on the first Sunday after Christmas day. It was still a pleasant experience. Instead of the regular service, the congregation sang Christmas carols.

Note that I am actually writing this several years after the fact for the sake of filling in details of my faith journey. I dislike the way most Evangelical Christians talk about their participation in, and experience of the Christian faith. It always seems campy and weird to me. It’s like they’re acting a part to impress the other members of the congregation with status piety; demonstrating how very Christian-ese they have become, rather than trying to obey God.

I’ve never been interested in sharing my testimony but oddly that is an actual requirement when joining some churches. Perhaps at some point I will revisit this post and describe in some detail how I came to faith and began attending church services.
