Personal Reflections
Today is Maundy Thursday. Because of the pandemic we are still unable to worship together at the church. I was just looking at a post on our denomination’s blog about worshiping at home this evening. I hadn’t yet looked at the lessons for tonight’s service so I was pleasantly surprised that one of my favorite psalms was included (if you happen to follow the Revised Common Lectionary.)
I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my pleas for mercy.Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.The Lord preserves the simple;
Psalm 116:1-6 ESV
when I was brought low, he saved me.
I hope that this time next year, we are once again able to in-person Holy Week services. Traditionally, we and several other local Lutheran congregations join together in an Easter vigil. That is one of my favorite services of the year.
